Princess Anne is radiant in tartan suit and £15,000 brooch at Cheltenham

Princess Anne is often seen at Cheltenham Festival and this year she attended both the third and fourth days of the event, impeccably dressed as usual. Today, March 17, the Princess Royal opted for a navy blue and red tartan suit.

Anne’s jacket matched her skirt – both were navy blue and adorned with a subtle, red pattern. She has worn the garments before, both together and separately with other pieces.

Tartan was the perfect option for the Princess today as many guests at Cheltenham were clad in the print. The royal’s jacket featured a folded collar and bright red buttons.

Her skirt was knee-length and she didn’t seem to be wearing tights, or if she was, they were nude.

She completed the look with a pair of trusty black boots and a black handbag. Anne wore a Fedora hat that was navy blue and felt, matching the rest of her outfit.

It had a ribbon around its centre and pinned to it was a small, gold, horse-shaped brooch.

Anne has been seen wearing this brooch many times in the past, especially for horseracing events. It is a nostalgic piece as the Princess has owned it for decades.

The recycling of pieces, like her skirt suit and her brooch, demonstrates Anne’s commitment to the environment, as well as her understanding of budget. She seems to have favourite outfits on rotation.

Diamond expert Maxwell Stone of jewellers Steven Stone previously spoke to Express.co.uk about the special brooch and the meanings behind it.

He said: “Princess Anne’s horse brooch is one of her most longstanding pieces of jewellery – the Princess Royal has regularly worn the accessory to races since the 1980s.

“The brooch is an incredibly fitting piece for the Princess for various reasons. Firstly, there’s her passion for horses and her successful equestrian career.

“Secondly, there’s the symbolism associated with the image of a horse – a universal symbol of freedom without restraint, this is perfectly in keeping with Princess Anne’s character.”

While it isn’t the most expensive brooch in the royal collection, the jewel is worth a fortune.

Mr Stone added: “I’d estimate a brooch like this to be worth £15,000 – potentially more dependent on its weight.”

Anne accessorised further today with a pair of dainty gold, diamond-shaped earrings.

These jewels have been seen countless times before and it seems that Anne has owned them since the 1980s.

Princess Anne was seen at Cheltenham yesterday too. Wrapping up warm for the chilly weather, the royal wore a grey coat and knee-high boots.

She wore a knee-length skirt underneath her coat and accessorised with a silk scarf, which she had tied just underneath her coat’s collar.

Anne also sported a large, black fur hat and tiny pearl earrings. Never afraid to stand out from the crowd, Anne’s hat was a stylish, on-trend piece that was bound to keep her warm.

Fur has been a key trend at Cheltenham this week, with many guests wearing both cropped and long fur jackets and coats.
