The trip to Germany is King Charles’s first overseas state visit as monarch and he and Camilla were welcomed at the airport today with a gun salute and a military fly-past.
The couple were later greeted by German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Budenbender, at a Brandenburg Gate.
A state banquet at the president’s official residence, Schloss Bellevue, will take place tonight.
Ahead of the trip, the president of Germany said: “To him and obviously all Britons, I want to say that we in Germany, in Europe, wish for close and friendly relations with the United Kingdom even after Brexit.”
