Zara and Mike Tindall ‘lift the mood’ at ‘frosty’ royal events – body language expert

Zara and Mike Tindall’s relationship has been explored at length in documentaries such as Channel 5’s “Zara & Mike: No Nonsense Royals”. But a body language expert spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk to explain what the couple is really like behind the scenes.

Judi James told Express.co.uk: “Probably the best way to describe Zara and Mike’s body language is in three words: Uncomplicated, Untroubled and Upbeat.

“Sporting success can produce quiet alpha confidence. Excelling in team sports creates an ability to trust strongly and to socialise and motivate others rather than navel-gaze.

“Zara and Mike seem to share these qualities and for Mike, his sporting success gave him one huge advantage when he married into the Royal Family.

“Rather than seeming intimidated by the royals, he has always managed to appear respectful but totally confident. His alpha sporting presence would have allowed him to enter the Royal Family with a very special high status of his own.”

The body language expert explained why Mike’s sporting background helped when he married the granddaughter of the late Queen.

Judi explained: “Mike was a hero on the rugby pitch and probably a hero with many of the royals, too, meaning his irreverent, fun, playful approach has won him fans across the Firm.

“Unlike other royals, the Tindalls have also shown the confidence to air their emotional ties and physical attraction signals in public. Their PDAs are legendary but also authentic.”

One key example of their PDA was after Mike was eliminated on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Zara came to meet her husband on the bridge.

Judi continued: “When the pair clung together after Mike’s stint in the jungle their tight hug and the sounds of almost animal mourning they produced showed how painful the separation had been for them.”

The body language expert claimed that they are also an incredibly good-looking couple, which helps their popularity thrive.

“They are also the sexiest royal couple,” Judi opined. “Zara and Mike will produce posed hugs and kisses for the cameras at outings like Ascot.

“But there are so many totally spontaneous moments when we can see them touching, kissing and eye-gazing like newlyweds.

“There is also apparent balance in their relationship, too. Both have successful careers in the sporting world.

“They will happily take turns to show signals of adoration and admiration to the other, depending on which one is the star of the show at any given moment.”

As well as public displays of affection, the Tindalls also have great “banter”, the body language expert observed.

Judi suggested: “Zara and Mike also share an ability to use banter as what seems like their first communication currency with each other, often joking and teasing in public, but to also switch to empathy and more openly emotional responses too.

“But they are clearly at their best when they are being playful. Whenever they arrive at even the most formal royal events they seem to lift the mood, which can often be frosty thanks to current rifts at the top level.

“Zara and Mike happily share their gargantuan hugs with all the other royals and create smiles and laughter where there has been tension and formality.”

According to Judi, Mike Tindall became the “alpha male” of the Royal Family after elderly members died and others stepped down from working positions.

She explained: “With Philip’s death, Mike is rapidly becoming the alpha male of the royals, giving William, in particular, a kind of paternal/friendship presence that he must be grateful for right now.”
