Sam Smith ‘heartbroken’ after being forced to cancel third gig | Music | Entertainment

Last night, Sam Smith hit Manchester’s AO Arena stage for the latest night of their incredible Gloria tour – but disaster struck.

After four songs – Stay With Me, I’m Not the Only One, Like I Can and Too Good at Goodbyes – Sam left the stage.

An announcement on the venue’s tannoy then confirmed that the show had been cancelled, while offering fans refunds.

Sam has since issued a heartfelt apology to their fans on Instagram after what turned out to be an incredibly disappointing evening.

Sam wrote: “Dearest sailors, I don’t know what to say honestly. I fought off a virus a few weeks ago and since then we have travelled across Europe and had such incredible shows.”

Sam continued: “Today in soundcheck I felt fine and was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise at the end. During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong.”

The singer alluded to losing their voice shortly after getting backstage.

They went on: “I came off stage and have tried everything to get my voice back in gear but it won’t. I am honestly heartbroken I couldn’t finish the show tonight for you all.”

Sam finished up by adding: “I love you all. I am sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry x.”

This is the third gig Sam has cancelled on their Gloria tour on account of health issues.

Back in April, they cancelled two shows; one in Glasgow and another in Birmingham.

At the time, Sam released a similar statement expressing their remorse for having to cancel sold-out shows of thousands of people.

“Sailors,” they wrote. “I am so sorry to let you know that my team and I are still really not well, so unfortunately we need to reschedule our Birmingham show to the 27th May 2023. It’s so important to me that we give you the very best version of Gloria. I don’t want you to experience it at anything less.”

They added: “Thank you so much for understanding, I know how excited everyone is to see the show, and I feel the same about seeing all of you.”
