The post by @JellyfishArm asked: “What’s the general consensus on guys walking around outside with their top off in UK hot weather?”
And Reddit users ranked the most to least tolerable reasons as to why men can walk around without a top or shirt on in the summer.
At the top, ranking justifiable, they wrote it is “definitely” fine to wear no top within the bounds of their own property. It is “fine” to be topless in public parks too.
At the other end of the scale, walking around shirtless in a supermarket is a big no-no.

It was also jokingly suggested that men who pick up their children “from school” without a top on should “go to jail”.
There were hundreds of comments left, and the one with the most likes read: “Unless you’re actually on a beach, it just seems trashy to me.”
“Completely agree. It’s [going topless] usually paired with pink sunburnt skin and a sweaty back,” another said.
A third wrote: “Unless you are in your garden or at the beach, absolutely not.”
One Reddit user commented: “Businesses, schools and other establishments – no it’s unhygienic and off-putting.”
Someone else was unconvinced there was an issue: “I don’t understand it. How much heat is a t-shirt really keeping in anyway? The amount of cooling you get from taking it off must be too insignificant to detect.”
“I think being topless should be fine for men and women, but I guess it’s not a perfect world,” another wrote.
One comment read: “I don’t do it myself but I have no problem with anyone (men or women) who choose to.”
