Kate, Princess of Wales, 41, attended the late Prince Philip’s 90th birthday celebrations in 2011 wearing a beautiful “coral” pleated pencil dress from Stella McCartney.
The dress, which was from the 2009 collection so is no longer in stock, featured pleating down the front and a large bow at the collar.
The website Browns Fashion described the original dress in 2011: “Coral coloured pleated pencil dress. A rose and bow detail sits on the high neck.
“A zip fastening runs down the back. Long sleeves. A pleated panel runs down the front of the dress. High waist.
“The hemline falls to the knee. This stunning dress by Stella McCartney in a stylish hue works for day or night with statement heels and accessories, as seen on Madonna.”
At the time, it was widely reported that Kate bought the original dress from Stella McCartney’s SS 2009 line.
But she paid £305 for it, according to Grazia magazine, after a sale. The original cost was £1,425.
This dress was adored by royal fans, however, Kate has only worn it on two other occasions over the last 12 years.
The second time the Princess stepped out wearing this Stella McCartney design was in 2018 for the late Queen’s annual Christmas luncheon.
On this occasion, Kate paired the dress with baroque earrings in gold and white designed by a Swedish brand called In2Design.
The jewels cost roughly $156 or £121 in British Sterling and looked fabulous on the Princess.
The third and final time that Kate wore this Stella McCartney dress was in 2019 for her nephew Prince Archie’s christening.
Kate wore her red Gianvito Rossi heels with the pink dress. The suede shoes had a slim heel and a classy pointed toe.
Juliette Botterill Millinery designed Kate’s red hairband for the event. The Pleated Pillbox design on the designer’s website appeared to have been updated.
In addition, Kate wore the Collingwood diamond and pearl drop earrings that belonged to Princess Diana.
Diana wore the same earrings during the christening of Prince Harry in 1984.
Royal fan @JessfromW tweeted: “Lovely dress on the Princess of Wales. Liked it for ages, the pleats just look timeless.” Similarly, @MeliyaWest commented: “Looks gorgeous on her.”
