Next Bond odds new favourite out of nowhere threatens Aaron Taylor-Johnson leads | Films | Entertainment

There have been six official James Bonds over the last 60 years of official 007 movies.

As EON Productions gear up to choose their Double O seventh, the odds race at the bookies’ continues to have its big shake-ups.

For the past few months, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been the favourite following unconfirmed rumours of a secret audition.

However, his lead on 6/4 is being threatened by a new contender who only joined the bookies’ race this week out of nowhere.

The star in question is now joint second on 3/1 with Regé-Jean Page and could soon become the new favourite.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “There seems to have been another dramatic twist in our search for the next Bond, with Snowfall star Damson Idris a shock new addition to the list of favourites.

“The 31-year-old was only added to the betting on Tuesday at 5/1 but has since been backed into 3/1 by Thursday morning, meaning only Aaron Taylor-Johnson (6/4) sits ahead of him in the odds.

“The market is still however wide open, and all of Regé-Jean Page (3/1), James Norton (7/2) and Henry Cavill (4/1) are still deemed to be in with a chance.”

Damson is a 31-year-old British-Nigerian actor who also played the co-lead in the Netflix sci-fi action movie Outside the Wire.

Also on the bookies shortlist are Tom Hardy and Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy on 7/1.

Of course, this should all be taken with a pinch of salt but who knows who Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson will choose in the end?
