As Taylor Swift continues her history-making Eras Tour, social media has revealed a growing trend of Swiftie dads in attendance, declaring their love for the singer in just as many bracelets and merch items as their teen daughters as they strut hand-in-hand into the arenas.
At the singer’s Philadelphia stop, GQ spoke to a few Swiftie-dads shedding some light on the unlikely phenomenon.
One dad-and-daughter duo had flown a sensation 10,000 miles from Mumbia, India to attend the concert and planned their entire American holiday around the show.
Amit admitted he had first encountered the singer because of his daughter as she would play her music while being driven around.
He added in awe: “I must say, I’ve never seen a city overtaken by fans the way I have here. The whole (hotel) lobby was full of Swifties.”
The 47-year-old revealed his daughter is a huge fan of the Lover hitmaker and he had won the battle for tickets last year, but had managed to keep entirely silent about it.
He shared: “We told her this morning.
“She thought she was having major FOMO that she was in Philly and not able to go here. But we bought the tickets in November.”
Amit also sported his own blue, purple and pink tie-dye bucket hat with “I heart Taylor Swift” embroidered onto the front.
Some Swiftie dads have joined in the new tradition of making and trading friendship bracelets at the concerts, with celebrity dad Channing Tatum even joining in as he was spotted holding rings stacked with bracelets as his daughter traded with fellow fans.
Countless father-fans have now been seen at the shows in homemade shirts declaring “Dads are Swifties too” and, updating the lyrics of Taylor’s Anti-Hero hit: “It’s me, hi. I’m the dad. It’s me.”
One fan took a more unique spin on his own attire, as he spoke to GQ in a seagull costume.
The West Virginia native has been a fan of the singer for years before his daughter was even born, alongside his wife.
As he stood beside his wife and daughter, who were both dressed in sky-patterned outfits, Daniel explained: “On the cover of 1989…Taylor Swift has a shirt with clouds and seagulls on it. So we’ve got all my sky here.”
