Chicken Run 2 trailer – Mrs Tweedy returns but not Mel Gibson and more | Films | Entertainment

It’s been 23 years since Aardman Animations’ stop motion classic Chicken Run hit cinemas.

And now Chicken Run 2 aka Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is set for release this year with the first teaser trailer arriving from Netflix today.

The upcoming film’s synopsis reads: “For Ginger and the flock, all is at stake when the dangers of the human world come home to roost; they’ll stop at nothing even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk to save chicken-kind. This time, they’re breaking in!”

The biggest reveal in the first look footage is the return of Miranda Richardson’s Mrs Tweedy, however much of the original voice talent has been recast.

Thandiwe Newton replaces Julia Sawalha as Ginger, while Zachary Levi replaces Mel Gibson as Rocky.

Romesh Ranganathan and Daniel Mays replace Timothy Spall and Phil Daniels as Nick and Fetcher the rats.

Meanwhile, David Bradley replaces the late Benjamin Whitrow as Fowler.

Director Sam Fell said of Mrs Tweedy’s return: “They say a movie is only as good as its villain and Ginger’s nemesis, Mrs Tweedy is one of the all-time greats. Now she’s out to take industrial-scale revenge on all chicken-kind with the Dawn of the Nugget. We’ve had so much fun working with Miranda Richardson to transform Melisha Tweedy into the ultimate 1960s super-villain. Miranda has a unique understanding of drama and comedy, making you laugh while scaring the pants off you in the exact same moment. Also rounding out our fantastic cast is Peter Serafinowicz playing Reginald Smith, a slightly bemused businessman visiting Mrs Tweedy’s giant nugget factory. It takes a particular kind of comic genius to play the foil to Miranda Richardson’s hilariously frightening archvillain. Peter pulls it off with effortless finesse.”

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 14 before the movie hits Netflix on December 15, 2023.
