Princess Cristina of Spain wore extravagant royal tiara to her wedding | Royal | News

Infanta Cristina is the daughter of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía, and is sixth in the line of succession to the Spanish throne.

On her wedding day, she looked radiant in a beautiful but simple Lorenzo Caprile dress made with silk specially made in Valencia.

It was off-the-shoulder, floor-length and boasted a full skirt which contrasted her nipped in waist. It also featured a stunning three-metre train.

The Princess wore a lace veil which was not only beautiful but touching too. It was once worn by Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain, her great-grandmother.

According to The Royal Watcher, Cristina’s earrings were from the Joyas de Pasar, a collection of jewels designated specifically for the use of the Queens of Spain by Queen Ena.

These were Queen Victoria Eugenie’s Diamond Earrings. It is understood that these have undergone several changes since being made in 1906, according to the fashion at the time.

The most striking aspect of Cristina’s look was her headpiece, the Spanish Floral Tiara.

This breathtaking diamond tiara, set in gold and silver with a floral motif, was made in 1879 by a British jewelry firm, J.P. Collins, for King Alfonso XII of Spain.

He originally gifted it to his bride, Archduchess Maria Christina of Austria.

The tiara stayed with the family for over half a century, but when they went into exile in the 1930s, it was sold.

Francisco Franco was later able to acquire the piece, and he was able to reunite it with the Spanish royals when he gifted it to Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark on her marriage to Prince Juan Carlos of Spain.

The tiara has been worn by a number of senior Spanish royals over the years, Queen Sofia, Queen Letizia and Infanta Elena.

It is one of Letizia’s favorite tiaras, having been spotted wearing it on a number of occasions.

Interestingly, the tiara can be converted into a necklace or broken up into several brooches.
