John Lennon’s birthday celebrated by Paul McCartney and George Harrison estate | Music | Entertainment

John Lennon only lived 40 years and more time has passed than he was on the earth, yet his legacy is stronger than ever.

Today marks what would have been the Beatles legend’s 83rd birthday and fans have been celebrating around the world.

Among the tributes is a post from Sir Paul McCartney who shared a picture of himself performing on stage in recent years with an image of Lennon behind him.

This was from a segment of his touring show where Macca performs a song with the help of footage of the late star from Peter Jackson’s The Beatles: Get Back documentary.

The 81-year-old captioned the image: “Celebrating the birthday of my wonderful friend and collaborator, @johnlennon – Paul.”

Meanwhile, the estate of George Harrison, who died in 2001 some 21 years after Lennon, also shared a tribute.

The Instagram post titled “Remembering John on his birthday”, included an animation featuring photos of the two Beatles as All Those Years Ago played over the top.

Harrison released the song a year after Lennon’s death as a personal tribute to Lennon with Macca overdubbed on backing vocals and Ringo Starr on the drums.
