Kate and William Christmas card: ‘Slightly odd note’ spotted making it look ‘less sincere’

The whole family look happy and can be seen holding hands as they walk around a garden in Norfolk, presumably in their residence Anmer Hall where they usually spend their summer break.

Body language expert Judi James commented that Kate and William “have made this pose look like a relaxed family day out, with the children in descending order of height and a very proud-looking Kate at the far end”.

Judi explained that the emphasis is on a “casual and united team here”. Prince William and the children are dressed in some “very relatable-looking outfits with William’s trainers looking well-worn and scuffed,” she said.

“There’s no attempt to signal a more formal and impersonal look here, where only Kate seems to have a more regal-looking glow to her white lace blouse and very smart-looking indigo denim jeans,” the expert added.

While Kate uses eye contact with the camera, like her three children, it strikes “a slightly odd note that William is the only one whose gaze is away from the lens,” the body language guru commented.

Judi suggested that “this makes his smile look less sincere and his state looks rather more reflective”.

She added: “His hand shoved into his pocket looks like a relaxed gesture but the eye direction has made him fall out of line with the rest of the group.”

The smiles “are a little more forced than the kind of authentic and totally natural grins and laughter Kate gets when she shoots her own photos of the children,” Judi commented.

However, “there is a clear sense of five individuals with five different personalities from this body language,” she claimed.

George is almost “leading the pose” in a similar way to when we saw him beginning to take charge of the poses during the Jubilee this year.

Judi explained that “his eyes engage with the camera and his grin is the widest” while Charlotte’s position in the middle of the group “reflects her usual growing confidence as well as some mirroring of her mother”.

Prince Louis “has a much more cheeky facial expression and has skipped the wide smile here”.

“Although he looks keen to register his own independence by avoiding holding his sister’s hand he still looks happier and more comfortable to be holding Kate’s,” Judi claimed.

In the photograph, presumably taken over summer, Kate can be seen wearing denim jeans, a delicate white broderie shirt and a pair of white Superga trainers.

The Princess of Wales looks stunning in the skinny jeans and the chic top, and opted to style her hair in subtle waves.

Prince William donned a Ralph Lauren navy shirt, blue denim jeans with a black belt and a pair of casual blue trainers.

Prince George sported a light blue polo shirt, also from Ralph Lauren, navy shorts and navy trainers.

Princess Charlotte looked beautiful in a light blue shirt with red embroidery, denim shorts and navy trainers while Prince Louis wore a striped top, light blue shorts and dark blue trainers.

Anmer Hall, in Norfolk, was a gift to Prince William and Kate by the late Queen Elizabeth to mark the occasion of their wedding in 2011.

The property, a Georgian country house built in the 19th century, is part of the late monarch’s Sandringham Estate.
