Back in February 1994, Andrea Bocelli entered the Sanremo Festival with a rendition of Il mare calmo della sera.
The rising star had won the preliminary competition the year before with the highest marks ever recorded for a newcomer after performing Miserere.
It was 30 years ago today that he won the main festival, once again with a record score.
After which, the young tenor would go on to release his debut album of the same name that April, entering the Italian Top 10 and being certified platinum within weeks – and the rest was history.
