Baby name of influencer criticised as she breaks down in tears

The young mum addressed upsetting comments that had been made towards her and her partner, Connor Darlington, after welcoming their son Koazy in July last year. In a video posted on her TikTok profile, 24-year-old Liana explained the “upset” that had been caused by a fellow YouTuber duo who had spoken out about baby names becoming “out of control in 2023”.

Jade and Connor have more than two million subscribers to their YouTube channel, which they frequently use to post videos about their relationship and family.

Despite a huge following of supportive viewers, the pair were faced with criticism following the announcement of the birth of their son, Koazy, whose name is pronounced: “Cosy”.

Speaking tearfully in a TikTok video to address the incident, Liana called out YouTubers Matt and Abby – who had discussed baby names in a recent episode of their audio show, The Unplanned Podcast.

The 24-year-old couple, who also welcomed a son named Griffin in July 2022, chatted about unusual baby names popular among parents “nowadays”.

Liana said: “No hate but you might have seen that the couple Matt and Abby.

“They were talking about people naming their kids new, original names… They were saying how ridiculous some of these new, unique names were.”

Though the podcast hosts didn’t explicitly mention the name Koazy, young mum Abby did state that some baby names “that are out there nowadays” kind of “bug her”.

Along with her husband Matt, the pair agreed that unusual names could be a “red flag” rather than a “flex” by modern parents.

In her emotional post, the influencer acknowledged that while she felt her son’s name was “meant to be”, she “knew everyone wasn’t going to love the name”.

She added that she would not defend her choice, “Koazy” was picked out by her and her partner Connor as a nod to their pregnancy experience rather than a “flex” to be different.

The new mum told followers: “As I was getting so hefty pregnant, people were saying: “Oh he’s cosy in your belly”.

“And it kind of confirmed to us that’s what we should name him. Because we already had that name and people were saying it.”

Despite trying to overcome the negative response to her baby’s name, Liana did not hold back in sharing her feelings with viewers.

In the video, she admitted that it had “really upset” her when she saw viewers in the comments of Matt and Abby’s video “rip” at Koazy.

The 24-year-old added: “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But it’s just different when there’s this comment section open on such a big influencer’s video of people, fully grown adults, just sat there slandering my baby’s name.”

While Matt and Abby, who are expecting their second child together, did not verbally respond to the incident, they have since disabled the comments on the TikTok clip of the podcast.

Fans of Liana and Connor’s channel have also rallied in support, with many of their six million viewers posting sweet messages about eight-month-old Koazy’s name.

Fellow influencer and Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague also showed compassion for the new parents. She wrote: “All that matters is that you and your partner love the name”.

Molly-Mae recently experienced similar criticisms over her own daughter’s name. It came after the 23-year-old and her partner Tommy Fury welcomed their first child, named Bambi.

During a 36-minute video addressing the backlash, she admitted that it was a “hard day” for the pair when they went public with their daughter’s name.

While Matt and Abby, who are expecting their second child together, did not verbally respond to the incident, they have since disabled the comments on the TikTok clip of the podcast.
