Lipstick can be used to enhance features like the eyes and skin tone but it also runs the risk of exaggerating fine lines and wrinkles.
These common signs of ageing are enough to put many people off wearing bold shades, but one woman has claimed that it doesn’t have to be the case.
Sharing her clever beauty hack on TikTok, Kalondia Casey (@kalondiacasey), a beauty and lifestyle ambassador for Women over 50, claimed that there’s a quick fix.
She said: “I struggle with my lips. I have lines and wrinkles all around my lips, but I’m 62 years old – that is just a part of the ageing process.
“But what can I do so I can wear bright-coloured lipsticks? I love bright colours but I don’t want the bleeding or the fading.”
Kalondia claimed that stopping the transfer of lipstick to the skin around the mouth is as simple as using one product – a clear lip liner.
The 62-year-old demonstrated how to use the transparent formula to form a barrier between the lips and the skin without affecting the colour of the pigment.
While the beauty expert used the “Sephora Collection Beauty Amplifier Universal Lip Liner”, any clear product would work.
In fact, the makeup tip would even work with a generic lip balm instead – it’s all in the application.
Kalondia said: “When I put this on, it really helps with that issue. I put the clear all around the outside of my lips and touching right on the fleshy part.”
To complete the look, she then went over her lips with an ordinary lip liner before applying the main pigment – bright red lipstick.
The beauty ambassador used the Make Up For Ever liner and a BKBeauty lipstick in the shade “Empower”.
Kalondia opined that despite the creamy formula, she doesn’t have to worry about her lipstick fading into the lines and wrinkles around her mouth.
She said: “It is such an easy and inexpensive tip and trick… you can all enjoy wearing those bright colours again even when you are a mature woman.”
TikTok users who had tried the cosmetic hack praised its effectiveness, with one commenting: “I use an Avon clear lip liner. definitely does the trick. I am also 62 years old”
Another wrote: “I have that pencil and it’s very good. It doesn’t bleed your lipstick.”
