Billie Eilish’s Grammys outfit has hidden meaning as singer pays tribute to Barbie history | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

In between scooping up golden gramophones, Billie Eilish took to the Crypto.com Arena stage for a moving performance of her hit What Was I Made For from the Barbie movie soundtrack.

The 22-year-old appeared alongside her brother, Finneas, in an olive-green dress with a light pink shirt underneath and a knee-length chequered pink and green jacket.

She paired the look with matching olive green kitten heels, a pink silk headscarf and black cat-eye sunglasses.

Her retro look is actually a near-exact replica of the Poodle Parade Barbie which was released in 1965.

Original Poodle Parade Barbies from 1965 are remarkably rare as the doll was only available for a year, although Mattel issued a reproduction of the edition in 1996 but with a slight variation in the olive green shoes.

The Grammy winner had teased the outfit earlier in the day, posting photos of the doll on her Instagram.

The only thing Billie seemed to be missing was the green and white purse with a painting of the Barbie’s namesake dog on the side.

Billie’s performance interrupted her winning streak as her Barbie soundtrack hit had won Best Song Written for Visual Media earlier in the day at the Grammys’ Premiere Ceremony.

Later on Sunday evening, Billie was also awarded the coveted Song of the Year, beating Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and the most nominated artist of the evening SZA.

While she wasn’t in her vintage Barbie look to accept the awards, the Ocean Eyes hitmaker was still proudly supporting the brand and the Greta Gerwig lead film.

The singer sported a black and pink bomber jacket with Barbie insignia, embuing the look with her usual grunge style with a pair of oversized black trousers, Mary Jane shoes and a white button-up shirt with a black tie.

Billie’s Barbie soundtrack contribution was nominated in six different categories for the 66th Grammy Awards, but the 22-year-old admitted it wasn’t at all expected as 2023 had been one of her quietest years.

She told Grammy Live! hosts Amanda Kloots and Alina Vission at the pre-show: “This was supposed to be an off year. Didn’t put an album out, didn’t do anything. We really made one song and we were like; ‘Here you go’.”
