Despite Nolan’s massive fame, one person in his life who has experienced little of the limelight is his wife Emma Thomas.

The couple met at University College London when he was 19. While their private life has been kept behind closed doors, she has worked as a producer on all of his films.

In the book Dreaming a Little Bigger Darling: The Cinema of Christopher Nolan, the filmmaker said: “I actually don’t want people to have me in mind at all when they’re watching the films.”

The couple, who live in Los Angeles, have four children.

Thomas has been called “the best producer in Hollywood, without question” by her husband.

Cillian Murphy, who took a starring turn in Oppenheimer, described her ongoing creative partnership with her husband as “the most dynamic, decent, [and] kindest producer–director partnership in Hollywood.”
