Disney breaks silence on Johnny Depp Jack Sparrow future in Pirates 6 | Films | Entertainment

It’s been six years since Johnny Depp starred in his fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie as Captain Jack Sparrow.

The Hollywood star was looking forward to giving the much-loved character a proper send-off in a sixth outing before being dropped from the project by Disney in 2018.

This was following domestic abuse allegations by his ex-wife Amber Heard which the actor strongly denies.

But then last year he won a libel case in the US against her and fan hopes have been soaring for him to return in Pirates 6.

Now Disney’s movies boss has spoken out on the upcoming sequel and whether or not Depp will be involved at all.

Speaking with the New York Times, Disney’s Disney Studios Motion Picture Production president Sean Bailey teased Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

The executive said: “We think we have a really good, exciting story that honours the films that have come before but also has something new to say.”

But what about a potential return for Depp’s Captain Jack in the outing?

Bailey simply replied: “Noncommittal at this point.” Well, that’s certainly not a no.

During his libel case, Depp said he wouldn’t return to working with Disney even if hundreds of millions of dollars were on offer.

Of course, time does heal and his fans really want more Captain Jack, so perhaps he could be persuaded even if it’s in Pirates 7?
