Elvis Presley had heartbreaking final words for Linda Thompson before death | Music | Entertainment

Elvis Presley first met Linda Thompson, the 22-year-old beauty queen, in 1972.

The pair fell head-over-heels in love with one another and became inseparable over the course of their four-year relationship that followed.

But things didn’t always seem to add up. And, before she knew it, the relationship began to fall apart. Linda felt she had to break things off.

In November 1976 – just nine months before Elvis was found dead at his home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977 – Linda met Elvis and had the tough conversation with him.

Linda (who turns 73-year-old tomorrow on May 23, 2023) explained Elvis flew her out to San Francisco to see a concert. But back at the hotel, things got serious.

Linda told the Daily Mail that she entered his hotel room and revealed she had suspected he was cheating on her.

She told him: “Honey, if there’s another woman, just be honest with me.”

She emotionally told the King of Rock and Roll that she loved him as “they held each other”. Then the star said his final words to her.

Elvis “tearfully pledged his love and loyalty” to Linda, but she was not going to change her mind. She was done with Elvis. “Then,” she emotionally recalled. “I walked away.”

As Linda walked away from Elvis in his hotel room, she didn’t think this would be the final time she ever saw him alive.

Elvis moved on quickly. He had a new girlfriend – Ginger Alden – relatively soon after Linda broke up with him. He was with the young model until his death, nine months later.

In fact, Elvis was found dead by Ginger in his home on August 16, 1977. But Linda was still one of the first people to know.

Elvis’ daughter, Lisa Marie Presley – who was just nine-years-old when her father died – wanted Linda to know as soon as possible.

Once Elvis was pronounced dead, Lisa Marie called Linda. She recalled: “‘My daddy’s dead,’ [Lisa Marie] kept saying. ‘He’s not, he’s just ill,’ I replied. ‘No, he’s smothered in the carpet,’ Lisa Marie told me. That’s when I knew it was true.” Linda then revealed she “screamed and threw the phone against the wall.

The star attended Elvis’ enormous and lavish funeral, which was held in Graceland a few days later. When she arrived, Elvis’ father, Vernon Presley, told her: “You kept my boy alive for more years than I could. You were the best woman for him.”
