This week marks 56 years since Elvis Presley began filming his 1968 romantic comedy movie Speedway in 1967.
He starred in the picture opposite Nancy Sinatra, a fantastic actress and Hollywood icon in her own right – but she was also the daughter of the legendary singer Frank Sinatra.
Elvis and Nancy had a special relationship. Sparks flew between them almost as soon as they met, and they instantly began spending a lot of time together behind the scenes.
Their connection wasn’t completely sexual, however. They had a real connection, Nancy recently revealed.
Speaking to People, she confirmed: “He would call me late at night to discuss things,” however his topics of choice were not what fans might expect from Elvis.

Elvis called Nancy to talk about things “like the ghetto”, she said.
“And his concern for people in the ghetto,” the 83-year-old said. “I don’t know if that’s surprising. People who follow his life probably are aware of his sensitivity.”
It wasn’t always serious between them, though. Nancy noted how much fun they had together, both on and off the film sets.
Nancy said: “I know he was the funniest man and probably the most serious man I knew, both people in one. He made me laugh so hard.”
Elvis and Nancy enjoyed one another’s company for the remainder of the film’s shooting, but their relationship eventually had to come to an end.
After having an affair for a few months, Elvis decided to pull away from Nancy – and it was all because of her father.
Frank Sinatra was not only powerful in the music industry, but also in the mafia.
And his ties with the mob left Elvis nervous. In the Gary Lindberg book “Letters From Elvis”, it was revealed: “Elvis was increasingly fearful of the heavy-handed tactics of Frank Sinatra and his mob connections.
“In a letter, he told Montez that he didn’t want any dalliance with Nancy because toying with Frank’s daughter seemed like playing with fire.”
