Fast and Furious timeline – Fast and Furious movies watching order before Fast X | Films | Entertainment

A couple of years on from Fast and Furious 9 and Fast X hits cinemas this month.

But with a timeline almost as complicated as the X-Men movies, what’s the chronological order to watch them in?

It turns out it’s actually best to watch the third movie Tokyo Drift in between the sixth and seventh outings.

The reason Tokyo Drift was shifted up the timeline was that Vin Diesel returned to the franchise after skipping that film (aside from a cameo) and 2 Fast 2 Furious.

The Dominic Toretto star essentially soft rebooted the series with fourth movie Fast & Furious, reuniting his character with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner and including Sung Kang’s Han.

However, Han died in a car crash during Tokyo Drift, while in Dom’s cameo in that movie it was revealed that he used to know the dead street racer. Therefore Fast & Furious, Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 became prequels to Tokyo Drift so that Dom’s adventures with Han could be shown on screen.

Then, during Fast and Furious 6, Han talked to his lover, Gal Gadot’s Gisele, about how he intended to go Tokyo, which he does after her death. Then in that movie’s end credits scene, Han’s death was revisited – but this time the cause was retconned.

Shown from a different angle to Tokyo Drift, we see that the driver of the car that hit Han was driven by Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. He was out of revenge after Han had been involved in defeating his brother Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) in Fast and Furious 6.

Meanwhile in Furious 7, we see what happened next after Dom’s cameo in Tokyo Drift. During the seventh outing, he shares a scene set in Japan with Lucas Black’s Sean, the star of Tokyo Drift.

So essentially Tokyo Drift overlaps the sixth and seventh movies as a spin-off. This means that if you’re planning on watching the movies chronologically, you should see them in the following order.
