It was the movie scoop of the year on the Fast X red carpet for the premiere today in Rome.
So far, everybody thought that the multi-billion dollar franchise would wrap up with a powerful two-parter, but suddenly all that we thought we knew has changed.
Watch the moment below when star Vin Diesel breaks the stunning news, backed by more comments from his leading lady, Michelle Rodriquez.
The pair play the central characters of Dominic Toretto and Letty Ortiz, so if anybody knows what’s going on it must be them.
Diesel told the cameras that Fast X is so good that the studio has begged for one more film. Watch the revelations below.
Diesel told reporters: “Without tipping the hat too much I can say this…
“Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if it would be a two-parter. After the studio saw Part 1 they said. Could you make Fast X the finale a trilogy?'”
Fans might almost think this was a prank, but Michelle Rodriguez was standing with him and did not seem remotely surprised. She immediately, and calmly, added: “It’s three acts in any story.”
When the stunned reported asked them to confirm if what they were saying is really true and we would be getting an unexpected third and final film, Diesel added with a big grin: “You probably are…”
Fast X will hit cinemas in the US and UK on May 19 with the supposedly final instalment then following in 2025. But now it looks like the high-octane petrol head saga might be going one movie further.
The tenth movie in the franchise will bring back Charlize Theron’s villain Cipher, as well as introducing a new nemesis in the form of Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes.
There have long been rumours that some form of CGI might be used to also bring back Paul Walker’s much-missed Brian O’Connor, whose car was seen pulling up at the end of F9, but it looks like the franchise also has a few more surprises up its sleeve.
