Freddie Mercury’s 77th birthday celebrated by Sir Brian May and Roger Taylor | Music | Entertainment

On September 5, 1946, a future music icon called Farrokh Bulsara was born in Zanzibar to his Parsi parents.

Taking on the stage name of Freddie Mercury, he would go on to become one of the greatest singers in the history of rock as the frontman of Queen.

Tragically, he died at just 45 in 1991 from complications of AIDS, which he was diagnosed with in 1987.

Today would have been Freddie’s 77th birthday and his fellow bandmates Sir Brian May and Roger Taylor have posted sweet tributes to him on Instagram.

However, fans shouldn’t expect one from bassist John Deacon, since he’s been retired and living a very private life since 1997.

Sir Brian posted a photo of the We Will Rock You musical’s gold statue of the Queen singer and captioned it: “Happy Birthday dear Freddie. Bri.”

Meanwhile, Roger shared a picture of himself and Freddie wearing Mexican sombrero hats. He simply wrote: “Happy birthday dear Fred.”

Today also marks the final day that the public can view the content of Freddie’s Garden Lodge home for free at Sotheby’s London, before his possessions are auctioned off from tomorrow.
