Next month, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is going to hit cinemas and finish off the film series once and for all. Director James Gunn has confirmed this will be his final Guardians movie – but what does that mean for the characters? At the time of writing, no Guardians actors have been confirmed to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe just yet – so that means nobody is safe. And some new merchandise seems to confirm Star-Lord is going to be hit hard.
The LEGO set graphics show off the new spaceship being chased down by Adam Warlock – the film’s new protagonist (played by Will Poulter). Could this powerful being go on to destroy the Milano in Vol 3, before trying to kill off the Guardians and their second ship as well?
Not a lot is known about Adam Warlock and his powers just yet, so he could be a real force to be reckoned with. In the Marvel comic books, he boasts the power of flight, super strength, speed, agility, and the use of energy as a weapon.
He’ll no doubt be the most formidable foe the Guardians have faced yet, but they are not down and out just yet.
The Milano was previously destroyed at the Battle of Xandar (during the events of the first Guardians of the Galaxy). It was later rebuilt by the Nova Corps as a thank-you for saving the planet.
As a result, this may mean Star-Lord’s ship is currently in repairs, or perhaps this new Guardians ship simply uses newer technology that is required for their mission to find Gamora.
Either way, Guardians fans are no doubt going to be on the edge of their seats during the entire film – especially as it looks like Rocket Raccoon may be getting killed off.
The latest trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 showed off some worrying snippets of Rocket’s background, as well as Peter Quill crying over a fallen ally.
After fans picked up on this hint, they began asking director James Gunn about Rocket’s fate on his Instagram account.
One brazenly said they hoped “Rocket dies” on his latest post. Gunn replied with an ambiguous emoji of two eyeballs.
Another fan said to Gunn: “About to p**s me off when rocket dies (if he does) they don’t need to die [laughing emoji] send em off world for a bit. Simple.” (sic)
Gunn cryptically said: “No one said he was going to die but that’s not how stories work.” (sic) (Via The Direct)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 hits cinemas on May 5.
Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 are available to stream on Disney Plus now.
