Hair washing hack to stop greasiness ‘makes the hugest difference!’

Abbey Yung is a beauty expert with a huge 734K followers on her TikTok account. She has claimed washing your hair in a certain way can make it stay less greasy for longer. The beauty expert said: “You’re shampooing your hair wrong.” She added this is “why your hair gets greasy quickly.”

She explained: “If your shampoo looks like this when you apply it to your scalp, try again.” She demonstrated the shampoo in her hands, having poured it directly from the bottle. This won’t spread evenly or cleanse your scalp properly.

“Instead, emulsify the shampoo for several seconds. See the difference? This will actually spread and cleanse evenly.”

Abbey rubs her hands with the shampoo on vigorously together to lather up the shampoo. She said: “That emulsified shampoo is going to work so much better on the scalp.”

The expert went on to share more of her shampooing tips on her YouTube channel. She said: “There are so many common mistakes people make when shampooing their hair.”

Shampooing your hair incorrectly can actually damage hair, she claims. The expert warns against some of the biggest shampooing mistakes.

Never shampoo tangled hair

“The issue with this is that the process of shampooing alone creates some tangle,” Abbey said. “If you already have tangles, it is going to make you so much more likely to experience breakage.”

She suggests using a wide-toothed comb to brush hair before getting in the shower and shampooing hair.

Wetting the hair incorrectly

Abbey said: “If the hair is not properly wet that is going to make it a lot more difficult to spread shampoo evenly throughout the whole scalp, which means that you won’t be getting a proper even cleanse.”

This will also cause you to use up more shampoo than you need, costing more money. She suggests taking a showerhead and working in sections over the scalp, flipping hair up and upside down, making sure each part of the scalp is fully wet.

Where you put the shampoo on your scalp

Make sure you are shampooing all over the scalp. The hair expert says she works in sections around her head, massaging shampoo into the scalp. She makes sure to rub shampoo into the back of her head and the very underneath of her hair line.

Applying shampoo to the ends

Shampoo is designed for the scalp, the expert said, not the ends of your hair. The shampoo can damage the ends of the hair by stripping moisture from them. Abbey explained: “The scalp is what needs to be cleansed, not the ends of the hair.

“The shampoo will actually run through the lengths and ends of the hair as you rinse it. The focus of the product application and massage should be on the scalp.”
