Henry Cavill James Bond hopes dashed as star swaps Superman for ‘big MCU role’ | Films | Entertainment

Having dropped The Witcher, Henry Cavill will be on the lookout for new franchises.

The self-confessed geek is already signed on for Warhammer but fans are ever hopeful he will finally be cast as James Bond after losing out to Daniel Craig for Casino Royale in 2005.

The 40-year-old continues to be a bookies’ favourite to bag the role on 7-2, just behind Aaron Taylor-Johnson on 2-1.

Yet the latest reports are that Cavill is swapping DC’s Superman for a huge Marvel role, which could well mean he wouldn’t have time to commit to another big franchise like Bond.

Fans have been speculating it might be Captain Britain, but a reliable scooper has massively hinted it’s an MCU villain to rival Kang the Conqueror.

Commenting on a post speculating that Cavill could be cast as Doctor Doom, MyTimeToShineHello tweeted: “He was offered something else and he accepted.” One fan replied, “You lying mate”, to which the scooper replied: “You will find that I’m not, sooner than you think”. However, he later backtracked and wrote: “Actually, my bad, some of you guessed it right.” And the implication many fans are taking away from this cryptic post is that it is the Fantastic Four villain after all.

Dr Victor Von Doom, previously played on the big screen by Julian McMahon and Toby Kebbell, is a Marvel Comics supervillain and the archenemy of Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four. The monarch of the nation of Latveria wants to bring order to humanity through global conquest. He’s an evil genius, with the technology of Iron Man and the magic of Doctor Strange. In the comics, he even invents a time machine and alongside Mr Fantastic is considered to be an ancestor of time traveller from the future, Kang the Conqueror.
