How to look younger: Makeup expert explains ‘top tips’ for applying eyeshadow in your 50s

Viral TikTok shares makeup top tips to look younger

Kalondia Casey is a certified make-up artist who uses her skills to help mature women in order to “help them feel beautiful each and every day.”

She teaches women professionally and also on social media the best anti-ageing ways to apply make-up.

On her TikTok page @kalondiacasey, she has received millions of views for her “top make-up tips and tricks” and has spoken to the Express on the best way mature women should apply eyeshadow.

For her first tip, Kalondia said it was important to “always do an upwards motion” when applying your eyeshadow with a brush.

She said: If you’re a mature woman, the worst thing you can do when you apply your eyeshadow is to apply it in a moon shape where it’s going downward because it ages you.”

Kalondia added: “Remember, we’re trying to look younger, we want our faces to be lifted, and so when applying eyeshadow, make sure you are blending upward and outward

“Anything other than that drags you down is going to look terrible, that is my tip and trick.

“While doing anything makeup related, keep everything up. That’s what I tell my clients when I am teaching somebody how to put makeup on.”

Next, Kalondia said it was so important that mature women wear glittery or shimmery eyeshadows if they wished to, and ignore outdated advice

She said: “Wear what you want to wear! I get so frustrated when I hear that mature women can’t wear shimmer eyeshadows. That is so bad! That is so 1950s.”

Kalondia has some advice for any woman wishing to experiment with shimmer or glitter eyeshadows.

She said: “You wear what you want to wear, but year it with grace. Wear it lighter than you normally would and just blend your products, that is a huge part.

“If you don’t blend it, it can look clown-like. My tip and trick for that is to just always blend at the end of your application.

Kalondia added: “If you want to wear shimmer, wear it in areas where you don’t have a lot of texture. I don’t have much texture on my moveable eyelid, the part that blinks, so I wear my shimmer there and then wear my matte products above and around it.”

Kalondia said her best advice was to wear what makes you happy, and said: “If I want to wear something, I am going to wear it.”

However, Kalondia has advised against some products that can be anti-ageing, such as black eyeliner.

She said: “I will tell you, I am not big on black eyeliner for mature women. I think on the lids it can be very ageing.”

However, Kalondia did have one tip for those wishing to experiment and said: “If you want to line your eyes, then take a waterproof gel liner and go under the lash line, and do a tight line with the black so that it’s making your lashes look longer but not taking up real estate on your eyelids.

“Then, wear a really pretty soft brown eyeliner underneath your lower lash line so you don’t have a heavy waxy look.”

Kalondia has also recommended some eyeshadows she believes work best on mature skin.

She said: “I love SIGMA, I think they’re highly underrated. You have to buy their products online, they’re not available in stores but they’re really good.”

Another brand the makeup expert recommends was the Sephora Collection.

Kalondia said: “Sephora has their house brand and it is wonderful. Their eyeshadow collection is so pretty and they’re highly pigmented. They go on really well and blend well, and that is what I am looking for in an eyeshadow.

“I can’t stand to buy an eyeshadow and you put it on and half of it ends up down on your face because of the fallout. You’re not going to experience that with these, which is why I really like them.”

For her final tip, Kalondia said it was important to do your eye makeup first to avoid any spillage from powdery eyeshadows.

She said: “I always do my eyes first just in case that happens. Then I clean and then I do my foundation last.”
