Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is just about to hit cinemas, but James Gunn is keen to dig up some old frustrations about his series. The American director brought the Guardians to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2014, but they were later used in the ensemble movies Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame. Gunn has now confessed how one of the scenes would have gone differently if he were involved.
THR reports Gunn said “Star-Lord would have killed Gamora if she asked him to; no, he would not have punched Thanos and doomed the universe”.
Considering Gunn was the inception of the cinematic version of Peter Quill’s persona and character, he would certainly have a good idea what he would have done in that situation.
Although, if Quill didn’t do both of these things, the events of Avengers Endgame would not have happened, and the universe would not have been saved from the blight that was Thanos.
With that said, Gunn was also frustrated by how Endgame was brought to a close, as well.
The final moments of Avengers Endgame showed Thor flying off into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy – something Gunn had not agreed to.
“[Marvel] chose to have that ending in editing,” Gunn revealed. “And I didn’t think it was gonna be in there. Endgame came out right after I decided to do Guardians again.”
He went on to flippantly add he “didn’t have much say in what was in Endgame”.
As a result, Gunn admitted he was left wondering how he was going to correct the course of Guardians.
Gunn commented: “What the f**k am I gonna do?” regarding Thor hanging out with the Guardians.
Thankfully, long before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 hit cinemas, Thor: Love And Thunder arrived on the silver screen and showed him leaving his space-faring friends.
