Having won his libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard, fans have been wondering if Johnny Depp will make a return as Captain Jack Sparrow on the big screen.
The 60-year-old had been dropped from Pirates of the Caribbean 6 by Disney, following allegations of domestic abuse by his ex-wife Amber Heard which the star strongly denies.
Yet following his victory in the courtroom fans are hopeful he could be persuaded to make a comeback.
During this period the Hollywood star has been backed to return as Captain Jack by some of his Pirates co-stars including Mr Gibbs actor Kevin McNally.
And now another actor from the franchise has spoken out in support of Depp.
Vince Lozano played the pirate Jacoby in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and spoke recently with MovieWeb in celebration of the first film’s 20th anniversary.
He said of working on the movie: “Hanging out with [other] pirates, telling stories, building some camaraderie, making jokes on each other of course. Hanging out with Geoffrey Rush, talking about acting, life; same thing with Johnny Depp.
“Asking him, ‘How did you come up with this character? ‘He would tell me stories about how he did it, jumping into a pool, coming out cold and thinking about how British musician Keith Richards moved his body. Johnny is one of the best people you’ll ever meet.”
He then came on to Depp’s future in the franchise, sharing his support, but cast doubts on it actually happening.
Lozano added: “I think he deserves another shot as Jack, but I don’t think it’s going to happen, I’m hearing a lot of stories out there.
“The audience is there though. I do a lot of pirate conventions and there’s such a big subculture of people that dress up like pirates, and they love Johnny.”
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in the works but it’s currently unclear if Depp will return in the movie as Captain Jack.
