Johnny Depp may work with Disney again if ‘right project’ after feeling betrayed | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Johnny Depp could reportedly once again work with Disney if it is the “right project”, despite cutting ties with the multi-billion dollar franchise.

Disney and Depp parted ways which the 60-year-old put down to the allegations made against him by his ex-wife Amber Heard who he sued for defamation.

Following a trial, a seven-person jury reached a verdict mostly siding with Depp although Heard, 37, won one of her three counterclaims.

In a statement at the time, Depp described how he was “hurt” by Disney as he had worked closely with the franchise for years as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Talking about how he felt, Depp said: “Hurt. Blinding hurt. It was like somebody hit me in the back of the head with a 2×4…

“I didn’t quite understand how, after that long relationship and quite a successful relationship certainly for Disney, that suddenly I was guilty until proven innocent.”

Now, despite there previously being bad blood, it has been reported Depp may reconsider working with Disney again.

A source close to the actor told People magazine: “Anything is possible. If it’s the right project, he’ll do it.

It was also stated in The New York Times in June Disney was “seemingly inching the door open” to work with the star again.

As of yet, it is unclear if Depp will work with the brand again and reprise his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming films.

A report came out last year which claimed he was going to make a comeback to the Pirates franchise for more than $300 million.

However, a representative of Depp stated this was “false” to People, dashing fans’ hopes.

An ex-Disney executive did say at the time they believed he would be able to star in Pirates of the Caribbean again once the verdict had been given.

They said: “I absolutely believe post-verdict Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board.

“There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.”

For now, Depp is busy elsewhere as he is set to direct the biopic Modi, starring Al Pacino, telling the story of 20th Century painter Amedo Modigliani.

He recently appeared at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to promote his film Jeanne du Barry where he plays king of France, Louis XV.

The movie received a seven-minute standing ovation with sources noting that Depp was “moved to tears”.
