Johnny Depp performs John Lennon classic at Jeff Beck tribute concert | Music | Entertainment

Earlier this year the former Yardbirds and Rod Stewart collaborator died after contracting bacterial meningitis at the age of 78.

Following the sad news, some of Jeff Beck’s friends and colleagues including Johnny Depp organised two Jeff Beck tribute concerts.

The first took place last night and another is taking place this evening at the Royal Albert Hall.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star toured with the late guitar legend last year and they released an album together.

Fresh from promoting his new movie Jeanne du Barry at Cannes last week, the 59-year-old actor took to the stage with the likes of Rod Stewart, Joss Stone and Ronnie Wood.

One particular highlight last night was when Depp invited ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and Metallica’s Kirk Hammett on stage, two of classic rock’s most legendary guitarists.

The Hollywood star then sang as they strummed along to a cover of John Lennon’s 1970 classic Isolation, with an epic solo from the Metallica guitarist.

The actor had previously played the track in a 2020 collaboration with the late Beck.

Depp also previously played with Beck during his concerts at the Royal Albert Hall last year.

Any surplus income made from the two tribute concerts this week will be donated to the Folly Wildlife Rescue based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

The Pirates actor was reportedly left “totally devastated” by his friend’s death. He was by Beck’s bedside the day before he died, joined by a group of other close rocks stars.
