Kate, Princess of Wales, 41, and her mother Carole Middleton, 68, have been caught style twinning on many occasions.
The beautiful pink ME + EM dress that Kate wore on a royal outing in Edinburgh in 2021 was so popular with royal fans, and even with her mother.
In 2022, Carole stepped out wearing the exact same pink dress to Royal Ascot – proving that the duo have a very similar taste in style.
But the mother and daughter duo have also been caught wearing the same jewellery, according to a style expert.
Susie Nelson, a style expert and founder of Modes and More spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk: “Kate and Carole’s shared mother-daughter fashion taste goes down to the smallest details.
“They both like jewellery by Cassandra Goad and Kiki McDonough. Princess Kate is thought to have borrowed her mother’s earrings for a James Bond premiere – which Carole had worn to her daughter’s wedding reception years earlier.”
These blue topaz and diamond drop earrings were designed by Robinson Pelham and retailed for £14,300 before going out of stock.
Kate wore the jewels in 2015 at the James Bond Spectre premiere, accompanied by a bespoke grey-blue Jenny Packham gown.
Ms Nelson also examined why Kate and Carole have worn similar outfits over the years.
She said: “Kate and Carole are both easy to dress as they are tall and slim. They have similar colouring, so, the same colours will suit them both.
“They both suit an elegant approach to dressing without layers of frills. Why does Carole borrow Kate’s clothes? Because she thinks they will suit her, and it’s an interesting reversal of the daughter pinching her mother’s items.
“Re-wearing and sharing clothes also gives a positive environmental message against ‘throwaway’ fast fashion.”
According to the style expert, Carole does have a “youthful fashion sense”.
Ms Nelson explained: “Carole is 68 years young and takes care of herself. She has said she wants to be an active grandmother, climbing trees and riding bikes with her grandchildren.
“Regarding her youthful fashion sense, she is aware of what is on the catwalk but tends to stick to what works for her, be it jeans and a white shirt, frocks for Wimbledon or formal clothes for Westminster.”
The style expert expanded on Carole’s “go-to style tips”: “Carole’s go-to style tips are to dress appropriately, not too much fuss and frill.
“Learn what suits you, be it colours and styles, e.g. her fondness for a coat dress and sleek lines. Keep things youthful yet classic, with say a coloured Breton top and interesting accessories.”
