Kate Middleton’s shuns ‘elaborate’ jewellery for a clever reason

Kate, Princess of Wales, 41, loves to wear affordable earrings from shops like Accessorize and Zara, as well as historic pieces from the royal jewellery collection.

Last month, the former editor of Vogue, Suzy Menkes, claimed Kate is a “disappointment” when it comes to jewellery, due to her lack of “excitement”.

Express.co.uk spoke exclusively to Eddie LeVian, the CEO of Le Vian, at the Tower of London where they recently hosted VIP clients and international press.

Mr LeVian, whose ancestors guarded the Koh-i-Noor diamond in 18th century Persia, said: ‌”Kate has mastered the art of choosing jewellery that corresponds to her outfit.

“It can be said she often chooses minimalist rather than statement jewels.

“On a day-to-day basis undertaking royal engagements, she can often be seen wearing feminine pieces.

“These include gemstone or pearl earrings which are pretty and often beautifully made but not elaborate.”

The trick to Kate’s beautiful jewellery wardrobe is the mix of high-end and low-end choices, according to Mr LeVian.

He commented: “She excels at high-low dressing, sometimes wearing an expensive dress with a pair of affordable earrings from a high street brand.

“She wore the Japanese Pearl and Diamond Choker to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the funeral of Prince Philip, which was a favourite of the late Queen.

“The Princess of Wales wears a lot of jewellery that was previously owned by her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

“This includes the Diamond and South Sea Pearl Earrings, the Collingwood Earring and of course Diana’s engagement ring.

“She has also worn pieces owned by the late Queen including the Greville Chandelier Earrings and the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings.”
