Major Marvel star confesses ‘frustrating and disappointing’ MCU set experience | Films | Entertainment

There’s only one MCU movie releasing in 2024, which is a first for Marvel Studios for quite some time barring the pandemic.

The likes of Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts have been postponed to 2025 after a disappointing box office year for the franchise in 2023.

Only Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3, which co-stars a returning Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, will hit cinemas this summer.

One Marvel legend rumoured to reprise his X-Men role with them is Sir Patrick Stewart.

The 83-year-old was recently asked if he’ll feature in the upcoming action comedy and confessed which Marvel movie he had a really bad experience on.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Professor X star spoke on those Deadpool 3 rumours.

Stewart, whose Charles Xavier character has died on the big screen at least three times said: “I have every confidence he’s still around. It has come up, there’s been a process. But the last two to three years have been so difficult with the labour problems and the health problems, COVID, you know…”

The actor, who first starred as the comic book character 24 years ago, also admitted he had a difficult time filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Stewart played a variant of Professor X from Earth-838 in the 2022 MCU blockbuster. Charles Xavier features in the Illuminati scene with several other alternate superhero cameos, including John Krasinski’s Mr Fantastic and Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter. However, due to COVID safety rules and presumably to prevent spoilers from leaking, the actors had to film their parts in isolation.

The 83-year-old admitted: “I was alone. In the big scene, each one of the leading actors had the same [solo] experience; they were shot on their own. It was frustrating and disappointing, but that’s how it has been. The last few years have been challenging.”
