Marvel movies slammed by Thor stars Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Hopkins | Films | Entertainment

Chris Hemsworth and Sir Anthony Hopkins played father and son Thor and Odin in the Marvel movies and have ended up agreeing with some of their critics.

The Oscar-winning 85-year-old, whose King of Asgard was killed off in 2017’s Thor Ragnarok, dismissed filming on MCU movies.

Speaking with The New Yorker, he said of his three outings as Odin: “They put me in armour; they shoved a beard on me.

“Sit on the throne, shout a bit. If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it.”

Meanwhile, the Thor star himself admits he’s “depressed” by Hollywood filmmakers slamming the Marvel blockbusters.

Martin Scorsese called the Marvel movies “theme park rides” and Quentin Tarantino believes it’s the comic book characters like Captain America and Thor who are the true stars rather than the likes of Chris Evans and Hemsworth.

The latter told GQ: “That’s super depressing when I hear that. There goes two of my heroes I won’t work with. I guess they’re not a fan of me.”

Most recently the Thor star shared how his kids’ friends didn’t hold back on lambasting the 2022 fourth outing, Thor Love and Thunder.

Hemsworth said: “It’s a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. ‘We thought this one had too much humour, the action was cool but the VFX weren’t as good,’.

“I cringe and laugh equally at it… I think we just had too much fun [on Thor Love and Thunder]. It just became too silly.

“It’s always hard being in the centre of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”
