Meghan Markle news: Sent ‘a message’ in Oprah interview with a covert item of jewellery

Meghan Markle wore a piece of jewellery that belonged to Princess Diana when she sat down to be interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in 2021. Meghan wore a Cartier tennis bracelet that once belonged to her late mother-in-law.

This very bracelet was used by Prince Harry to create Meghan’s diamond engagement ring in 2017, with the intention of ensuring that Diana is always with them on their “crazy journey together”.

The significance behind Meghan’s choice of jewellery was not lost on Rachel Garrahan, British Vogue’s jewellery and watch director at the time.

Responding to a short trailer for the interview, which would prove to be controversial, she said: “By wearing Diana’s Cartier diamond bracelet alongside her own Love bracelet, which she has owned for years, Meghan is symbolising the start of a new life with her husband, one that embraces their shared pasts.”

In addition to the sentimental value of Diana’s bracelet and the symbolism of the Love bracelet, Meghan’s choice to wear the Pippa Small aquamarine Colette necklace carried its own message, Vogue’s expert claimed.

The aquamarine stone is associated with tranquility and clarity, and its presence in the necklace reflects Meghan’s commitment to ethical issues. Garrahan said: “Small’s business has always been dedicated to sustainability and providing skills and employment to artisans in countries like Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Jordan.”

Meghan has long been known to wear jewellery with a special message. She has a £2,345 diamond pinky ring with a hidden meaning.

The ring is a symbol of female empowerment, a cause the Duchess is passionate about. It is from Shiffon Co, and it is the 1972 Tennis Pinky Ring.

According to the website, the ring was designed and made “in honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark legislation that paved the way for women in sports” and “Shiffon’s 1972 Tennis Pinky Ring pays homage to the iconic Tennis Bracelet”.

The royal frequently wears jewellery that makes sweet nods to her children, Archie and Lillibet. Meghan’s Lorraine Schwartz eternity ring was designed for her with the help of Prince Harry.

In it, Harry had added birthstones representing himself, Meghan, and Archie. The ring features a green emerald for Archie, a sapphire for Harry, and a peridot for Meghan.

Diamond expert Maxwell Stone told Hello!: “Meghan wears a comfortable mix of jewellery brands, from the luxe to affordable, and many of her pieces pay subtle tribute to her family – more specifically, her two children, Archie and Lilibet – including her diamond eternity band, that features hers, Harry’s and Archie’s birthstones.”
