Meghan Markle showed love for sustainable fashion on first public outing with Prince Harry

Ever since Meghan Markle’s first public appearance with Prince Harry back in 2017, the Duchess has worn sustainable brands.

She opted for a crisp white shirt (fittingly named “The Husband Shirt”) by her friend Misha Nonoo, whose brand is known for its use of sustainable materials and made-to-order approach.

Meghan, 42, has continued wearing sustainable brands, having just recently worn a camel turtleneck top and skirt set from Bleusalt for a video announcing the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund.

Tencel, a fibre made from wood that is sustainably obtained, is used by this Malibu-based brand to make all of its designs, which are all made in the US.

Meghan chose an all-red ensemble from eco-friendly retailer Another Tomorrow for the One Young World Summit in Manchester in September 2022.

Vanessa Barboni Hallik, who launched the New York-based brand in 2020, is dedicated to using environmentally produced materials like recycled cashmere and FSC-certified viscose.

In addition, Ms Hallik likes to ensure all workers are given a livable wage throughout the supply chain.

Meghan has worn several items from the California-based Everlane brand over the years, including knitwear and jeans. Everlane aspires to make eco-friendly design more affordable for consumers.

The Duchess of Sussex chose a black jumpsuit from the brand for a trip to South Africa in 2019.

Since its 2004 debut, the French trainer brand Veja has grown to be cult-like because of its commitment to providing consumers with complete supply chain transparency.

During the Invictus Games in Sydney in October 2018, Meghan donned the company’s Esplar trainers, which are named after a Brazilian NGO that aids cotton growers.

The jewellery industry is changing because of lab-grown diamonds, which provide a more environmentally friendly option to traditionally mined stones.

When visiting the Smart Works charity in London in January 2019, the Duchess wore British brand Kimai’s Felicity earrings, which feature fake diamonds set in ethically sourced gold.

Meghan wore a white tuxedo dress designed by a sustainable New Zealand-based brand called Maggie Marilyn to a reception in Wellington as part of her first royal tour in 2018. This was a lovely gesture to support local designers.

Founded by Maggie Hewitt in 2016, the brand makes a point of offering transparency across its supply chain, paying workers a living wage, and using environmentally-friendly fabrics.

The Duchess was renowned for donning her friend Misha Nonoo’s “The Husband Shirt” for her first official outing with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in Toronto in 2017.

She then wore a pleated skirt from the same company for the release of her Together cookbook in 2018.
