Some first dates are magical, but others can be a total trainwreck – especially if an ex is involved.
Elaine signed up for a dating agency in her 20s desperately looking for love, and was excited to finally meet the man of her dreams.
She excitedly got ready for her date and turned up to a fancy London restaurant to meet him, dressed to the nines.
She told Express.co.uk: “He was a Policeman, very tall, very handsome – I was quite happy with what he looked like.”
Things were going well as the pair made small talk, until Elaine spotted a familiar orange sports car driving beside them.
To her horror, as the car slowed down and beeped loudly at them, Elaine realised they were being followed by her ex-boyfriend Jack.
He wasn’t a malicious ex – just downright annoying and a big prankster – so she rolled her eyes and quickly ushered her date into the restaurant.
Elaine continued: “I’ll never know how he managed to find out where I was going, but I tried to forget about it, nervously buying a drink and sitting down.
“I had no idea what was going to happen, but the next thing my ex marched in and sat down at the bar to watch us.
“I didn’t tell my date but I knew I’d have to make a quick exit. I was trying not to laugh and couldn’t concentrate on the poor guy. I kept looking at Jack pulling funny faces at me.
“But before I managed to get up and leave, to add insult to injury Jack made his way over to our table and ‘accidentally’ knocked our table so our drinks spilled on the floor.”
Elaine made her excuses and left the restaurant, later calling Jack to have a huge go at him for crashing her date.
She told Express.co.uk: “We ended up having a laugh about it and I threatened to turn up on his next date to embarrass him.”
Elaine revealed she did end up doing this. They were the kind of on-again-off-again couple that didn’t belong together at all but hated the idea of the other being with anyone else.
