In recent years, James Bond fans saw Daniel Craig finish off his fifth and final 007 movie, No Time To Die. His version of the character was brutally killed off, bringing his journey to a resounding end. Ever since, the race has been on for a new actor to join the series in his stead. While the official actor announcement will come in the coming months (or even years), Henry Cavill has been a fan favourite for a long time – however, he seems to have stalled.

Cavill is, of course, best known for playing Superman in the DC Studios franchise, as well as The Witcher for Netflix.
He also previously auditioned for James Bond back in 2005. However, he was told he was “too chubby” for the role (the Brit later admitted he “didn’t know” how to train or diet correctly). As a result, Craig was hired instead of him, and the rest is history.
Despite his fractured history with the Bond series, Cavill has recently been awarded a fantastic 5/2 odds on becoming the next 007 from Ladbrokes.
However, the Bond odds seem to have stalled, leaving Cavill at the top of the list alongside a former major Marvel hero.
Cavill is currently going up against the Quicksilver star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Taylor-Johnson appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015, before being killed off. Since then, he has starred in Bullet Train, Outlaw King and Tenet. He is also playing the lead in the upcoming Marvel movie Kraven the Hunter – one of Spider-Man’s biggest nemeses.
Furthermore, rumours hit last month that Taylor-Johnson had already auditioned for Bond – could he have the role already?
With that said, at the moment, Taylor-Johnson also has a staggering 5/2 in the Bond odds, leaving him on level pegging with Cavill.
Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said of the pair: “It’s neck-and-neck at the head of the Bond betting right now; punters can’t seem to split Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and neither can our traders at this point.”
That isn’t to say it’s a two-man race, however. The ever-brutal Next James Bond race has a slew of massive actors in the running to replace Craig after No Time To Die.
Hot on the heels of Cavill and Taylor-Johnson is James Norton, who most recently made an impact on the BBC series Happy Valley. He currently has 11/4 on donning the tuxedo and taking his martinis shaken, not stirred.
But where is Tom Hardy in all of this?
Hardy is best known for playing the titular antihero in Venom, as well as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
And while his odds have dipped back to 9/1, he is still a fan favourite. But, unfortunately, the British actor has confirmed he will not be talking about the Bond role.
He previously said: “You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone.”
With that in mind – could he still come back and trounce the rest of the competition, such as Cavill and Taylor-Johnson?
