One Direction reunion ‘on the cards’ despite James Corden rumour ‘misdirect’ | Music | Entertainment

One Direction officially split up back in 2016 after a tumultuous year on the road. Since then, their fans – the Directioners – have been yearning for a reunion ever since. While the likes of Harry Styles and Niall Horan have enjoyed incredible solo careers in recent years, their success seems to have made a 1D reunion even less likely. That is, until this week.

Earlier this week the Daily Mail reported James Corden would be responsible for bringing One Direction back together. This is not a massive surprise, considering that Corden has a powerful relationship with the band. Styles even previously lived with him before he became a worldwide superstar.

As a result, the rumour was that Corden’s final episode of his Late Late Show – which is due to air later this month on April 27 – would involve the band members reuniting once again to send Corden off with a classic 1D song.

However, Corden’s official Twitter account has now stated the worst news for Directioners: the rumours “aren’t true”.

The official Late Late Show account wrote: “Nobody loves the boys more than us … but this story just isn’t true,” alongside a screenshot of the Mail’s headline. The account added: “What is true is we’ve got an absolutely brilliant 2 hour finale planned to celebrate 8 years of #LateLateShow at 10pm on April 27th.” (sic)

With that said, the latest odds on a One Direction reunion in the next episode of James Corden’s Late Late Show are standing firm.

Ladbrokes currently have the odds of a 1D reunion on the Late Late Show on 10/11, meaning the odds are certainly tipping in favour of the fans.

Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said: “Late Late Show chiefs are keeping their cards close to their chest right now, but if there’s One Thing fans are sure of, it’s that a 1D reunion is on the cards.”

He added: “The odds seem to suggest any quashing of the rumour at this point could well be a misdirection from producers.”

The ongoing rumours add up with further reports about former members of the band wanting to reconnect with their bandmates.

A source recently told OK! Magazine Liam Payne was looking to bring the band back together after years apart.

“Liam is desperate to get back on the road with the boys,” the source said. “His solo career hasn’t remained as successful as he hoped it would, and work has become stagnant for him.”

They added: “He knows he’s somewhat fallen out of favour with the public, and believes the only way he’ll be able to win back his fans is with a One Direction reunion.”

Harry Styles has even spoken out about getting back with the lads. Last year Styles told the Spout Podcast he “didn’t know” how he would feel about a reunion.

He continued: “The thought of it is really nice. I’d love for there to be a time where it felt like something we all wanted to do … Yeah, I think if there’s a moment for us to do it in the right way, I think it’d be great.”
