Princess Anne dons £375 ‘Venetian red’ coat with £8,000 ‘sparkling’ brooch in Canada

Princess Anne, 72, is on a royal tour in Canada. The Princess Royal attended the “8th Canadian Hussars Exercise of the Freedom of the City of Moncton Parade” on Saturday.

The Royal Family and the 8th Hussars have a long history together. The late Princess Louise, one of Queen Victoria’s daughters, was married to the Governor General of Canada and had her name added to the Regiment’s title in 1884.

Princess Anne joined the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) regiment in June 1972 at the age of just 21.

For the occasion on Saturday, the Princess Royal paid tribute to Princess Louise with the Princess Louise brooch.

This jewel features a yellow gold crown in the centre and is adorned with pave diamonds.

By wearing this brooch, the Princess Royal paid tribute to both a late member of the Royal Family and also a regiment that she’s been associated with since such a young age.

Steven Stone experts estimate the brooch to be worth approximately £8,000.

The brooch was seen on Princess Anne throughout the weekend, including at a commemoration performance on Saturday night and a trip to the 8th Hussars Regimental Museum on Sunday.

Zack Stone, the managing director at Steven Stone told Express.co.uk: “The Royal Family have a spectacular collection of brooches. Though their values vary, they’re all rich in history and symbolism.

“The Princess Royal’s brooch – which she wore at various points during the weekend – was just as symbolic.

“Featuring a yellow gold crown and white gold adorned with pave diamonds, the sparkling brooch was in the shape of Princess Louise’s monogram. The regiment added the royal’s name to their title in 1884.

“The brooch showcasing Princess Louise’s monogram is likely to be worth £8,000.”

In addition to this brooch, Princess Anne wore the “Grace Coat in Venetian Red” from the brand Shibumi on Saturday.

The coat costs £375 and Princess Anne wore the garment with a matching scarf for the occasion.

The definition says: “Our most popular knee length, single breasted cashmere coat, best worn open, with a half belt at the back for a flattering fit, a revere collar and vents at the sides.

“This rich red coat can be worn smart or casually; for a wedding guest outfit, the theatre or a day out with friends. Looks just as good over one of our silk dresses as it does with jeans.

“Please note the usual lining colour of this coat is Navy, however this may vary due to stock levels.”

By choosing a red coat with a navy interior, Princess Anne paid tribute to the Hussars’ red and blue colours.

Another brooch that Princess Anne was seen wearing over the weekend was a silver-plated circular brooch that featured the outline of a horse and its rider in the centre.

The brooch was a sentimental choice by Princess Anne as it paid tribute to the horse that the Canadian Regiment rescued during World War Two.

Steven Stone experts estimate the silver brooch to be worth a modest price of £500.
