Princess Kate often follows this ‘simple’ fashion ‘formula’

Kate, Princess of Wales debuts several looks a week when she steps out for royal engagements, sometimes even multiple outfits in a day.

And while she has an established style comprised of both timeless classics and statement gowns, the 41-year-old never fails to make even her most worn pieces look brand new.

While the Princess does of course benefit from having almost any designer garment at her fingertips, a royal style expert has explained that it’s not Kate’s expensive taste that makes every outfit look so elegant.

In fact, all it comes down to is some careful planning that anyone can do with their wardrobe.

Speaking in a video posted on her TikTok account, fashion and beauty editor-turned-stylist, Miranda Holder explained the “formula” Kate uses to shape her dress sense.

Speaking about Kate’s recent outing where she visited the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in Bath, England, Miranda analysed the royal’s eye-catching outfit.

The Princess of Wales stepped out in the “Mya Yellow Tailored Jacket” from one of her go-to designers, L.K. Bennett.

Looking elegant in the Peggy Guggenheim-inspired design, Kate teamed the bright blazer with a white top, trousers and trainers.

While the outfit itself looked stunning on the royal, Miranda noted that it is a prime example of how Kate often builds her fashionable ensembles around one statement garment.

The fashion expert said: “Kate adopted the simple outfit formula of working with one major hero piece, in this case, this beautiful blazer, and building the rest of her look around it.”

She went on to explain that the Princess’s white top, shoes, and trouser co-ord was the “perfect neutral” to pair with the yellow.

Miranda noted that the pop of colour kept the ensemble “spring-like, fresh, and sporty”.

It’s not just on this occasion that the royal’s outfit appears to fit this fashion formula.

The Princess of Wales often uses block colouring in her clothing choices and pairs the looks with neutral or muted accessories to complete the outfit.

Her go-to styles include floaty midi-dresses with a cinched-in waist and collared neckline or colourful suits which she teams with a black or white top to avoid distraction from the “hero piece” co-ord.

And no matter whether the outfits are new or old favourites, Kate breathes new life into them by switching up the colour or style of accessories for the occasion.

For example, she recently visited the Chelsea Flower Show wearing a silk, pink dress by London-based brand, ME+EM (£450), which was first debuted on a visit to Scotland in May 2021.

The first time she wore the dress, Kate altered the design by switching out the matching silk belt with a structured style in a similar hot-pink hue.

Worn with her hair neatly swept back in a half-up style, she was pictured wearing nude court shoes for the formal occasion.

However, more recently, she put a summery twist on the look by wearing the original loose belt tied in a bow at the back of the waistband and swapped her stilettos for light brown suede wedges.

Staying true to the “formula”, the dress remained the focal point of the outfit, while her loose waved hair, tie-ankle shoes, and gold leaf-shape earrings made for a more effortless finish.
