Priscilla Presley ‘never betrayed’ Elvis Presley – even though she ‘hated’ him | Music | Entertainment

Elvis Presley first met Priscilla Presley in 1959 in Friedberg, Germany, while he was stationed there in the US Army. Although she was just 14-years-old, and he was a lot older than her, their connection was untameable. But being with a world-renowned star sent her life into disarray, and she eventually ended up hating him.

“I was 14,” Priscilla recalled during her live show, An Evening with Priscilla Presley, in Glasgow earlier this week. “He was 24 years old and he was always a gentleman with me.” (Via The Mirror)

While she claimed her relationship with the Blue Suede Shoes star was “definitely not sexual”, he would tell her his “fears”.

She said: “He didn’t think he had a career. He poured his heart out on the loss of his mother… stories about his mother walking him to school, even high school. He’d hide behind trees because he would get embarrassed that the kids who were older would see him with his mother.”

The more time the young girl spent with Elvis, Priscilla remembered, the more she became attached to him. They never wanted to be apart. But their love was a secret.

“I grew to love him so much as a young girl,” Priscilla said. “And I never ever betrayed him. I never told anyone that I was seeing him.”

But, eventually, word got out. Paparazzi tracked her down and began invading her privacy.

She said: “The photographers found out where I lived and found out what school I went to. They followed me home.”

Unfortunately for Priscilla, things came to an end. And before long, she grew to resent Elvis.

Elvis returned to the USA in 1960, and contact between the lovers was brought to an end. “He didn’t call me for 21 days,” she said. “I thought that I would never hear from him. I was totally heartbroken.”

She would go about her day downtrodden. “I’d go to school and I’d write his name,” she continued. “I’d score it out, throw away the paper and say I hate him, wondering if I would see him again.”

Eventually, of course, they rekindled their relationship. She got long-distance calls from the star in the dead of night. They talked for hours and she was eventually invited to visit his home, Graceland, in the USA.

Priscilla finished school in Memphis, Tennessee, where Graceland resides, and before long moved to the USA permanently.

Almost a decade after meeting, in 1967, Elvis and Priscilla got married – but it wasn’t meant to last. Six years later, in 1972 they split, with the divorce finalising the following year.

In that time, though, they had a daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.

There was no bad blood, though. The three had a powerful connection before Elvis died a few years later on August 16, 1977. He was found dead in the bathroom of his home, Graceland, by his fiancee at the time, Ginger Alden.
