Adult film actress Stormy Daniels claims she felt threatened after her alleged hush money arrangement with Donald Trump came to light during his presidency in 2018.
“I was completely sure that I was gonna die,” Daniels alleges in a documentary released Monday on Peacock called “Stormy.”
Daniels states she agreed to accept the $130,000 hush money payment just days before the 2016 presidential election to keep her one-night stand with Trump in 2006 a secret to protect her family, and to have evidence linking her to Trump as a safeguard against harm.
The documentary provides a glimpse into Daniels’ life following the public revelation of the hush money payment which led to Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen being imprisoned for campaign finance violations. Trump himself faced charges of falsifying business records in relation to the payments. Trump denies the affair and pleads not guilty.
Trump’s legal team argues that the release of the documentary ahead of trial could bias the jury. They criticize prosecutors for not informing them about the documentary in advance.
The defense team of Trump contends that Daniels’ statements in the documentary, including alleged threats, are prejudicial to Trump’s case.
“Clifford asserts on the video trailer that ‘sh*t got real’ when President Trump got the Republican nomination, claims that she was ‘terrified,’ reads highly prejudicial threats not connected to President Trump, such as a random person stating, ‘you just signed your death warrant,’” Trump’s attorneys wrote, referring to Daniels by her real name, Stephanie Clifford.
As per the defense, the release of the documentary aims to bias the venue and warrants either a dismissal of the trial or a delay.
Trump’s legal team has also requested the judge to prevent Daniels from testifying.
Judge Juan Merchan has agreed to postpone the trial until at least April 15 due to delayed document production from prosecutors in the Cohen case, not related to the claims involving Daniels. He has yet to make a ruling on the Daniels-related issues.
