Royal Mail customers face further disruption following strike action

Royal Mail services were disrupted in parts of the UK over the weekend due to strike action and local issues affecting certain offices.

While business was expected to resume as normal today, the courier has issued an update of postcodes that will experience further delays.

Households in Scotland and parts of England have been warned that they may have to wait longer for parcels that were due to arrive over the weekend or today.

According to the Royal Mail website, disruption is likely in Glasgow today, specifically in the G1 and G5 postcode areas.

It comes following strike action taken by members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) on Friday, May 19, 2023.

The postal service apologised for any disruption caused due to the “unballoted action” and vowed to return to normal service as soon as they can.

Further disturbance to Royal Mail operations has also been reported in parts of England today.

While deliveries are “operating as normal”, some local offices have been impacted by staffing issues and “other factors”.

The following postcodes are “most affected” by the disruption today:

  • Bristol South DO (BS3, BS13 and BS41)
  • Bristol South East DO (BS4 and BS14)
  • Camberley DO (GU15, GU16, GU17 and GU95)
  • Sandhurst DO (GU46 and GU47)
  • Wallingford DO (OX10 and OX49)
  • Weston Super Mare DO (BS22, BS23 and BS24)
  • Yatton DO (BS49)

Royal Mail issued their regret over the inconvenience and thanked customers for being understanding about issues on a local scale.

They reassured Britons that they have taken steps to minimise delays caused by staffing and resourcing challenges by rotating deliveries.

The postal service noted that they also aim to provide targeted support to offices and restore services to their usual “high standard” customers would expect.

Households outside of the listed postcodes should not face delays as air, rail, road and mail centre networks have operated “on schedule” over the last 24 hours.
