Ryan Gosling ‘fought’ for I’m Just Ken Barbie song | Films | Entertainment

The wait is over: Barbie is finally out in cinemas. But while fans have been yearning to see the picture hit the big screen, they likely didn’t expect to be so enchanted by its extensive soundtrack.

Barbie The Album includes tracks from such incredible pop stars as Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, and Charli XCX – just to name a few.

But perhaps the most surprising musical entry in the movie was from Ken himself: Ryan Gosling.

The Canadian actor performed the hit song I’m Just Ken during a pivotal moment in the picture – and he actually sung it himself.

Famed British producer Mark Ronson pulled the Barbie soundtrack together and couldn’t help but praise the actor’s diligence in bringing the song to life.

The producer confessed he was “over the moon” with Gosling’s performance.

“At first, I was like: ‘Okay, maybe the song won’t be as good as the demo’ but in the end he exceeded the demo.”

And he realised just how powerful Gosling’s performance was once again when he saw the finished movie.

Ronson said: “Then when I first saw the film, with him actually acting out the song, I was like: ‘Of course!’ Because he knew that, at some point, he’d be acting out these lyrics, so he was already doing it in the studio.”
