‘Terrifying’ Elijah Wood is completely unrecognisable in new movie | Films | Entertainment

Elijah Wood may have had fans loving him during his starring role as Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, but they aren’t likely to feel the same way about the 42-year-old actor in his newest role.

In new photos from the set of The Toxic Avenger remake released by Entertainment Weekly, Wood is unrecognizable as he transforms into the character of Fritz Garbinger.

In the images, Wood, who is known for his youthful appearance, brown hair and blue eyes, is a completely different person.

As Garbinger, he sports blackened teeth and panda-like eyes that are ringed with dark circles.

He also has a mostly bald head, though some long black strands do protrude from both the top and sides of his head.

Speaking to EW about the look, writer-director Macon Blair said the inspiration was “sort of Riff Raff from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the Danny DeVito Penguin mixed together.”

Fans agreed when the images surfaced online, though most also saw a resemblance to the infamous Gollum from the LOTR franchise.

“Elijah Wood became Gollum,” one person said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Thought that was Gollum for a second there,” another added.

“MY PRECIOUS!” another chimed in, referencing Gollum’s famous line.

The film also stars Peter Dinklage, who most will recognize as Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones.

Though he isn’t heavily made up with a new look in his role as Winston Gooze, in one image that surfaced, he certainly doesn’t look like the smartest man in Westeros.

He sports a black face mask, suit jacket and pink tutu skirt in his first-look photo.
