Tina Turner net worth: Singer was worth a staggering £201million after 50-year career

The American-born Swiss singer and songwriter, was one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, and has sold over 200 million records wide. 

It was announced by a spokesperson earlier today, she died aged 83 after a long illness. 

In a statement, they said: “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

Tina first found fame as a lead singer of duo Ike & Tina Turner, before launching a massively successful career as a solo artist.

She began her career with Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm in 1957, and first appeared on record under the name Little Ann.

She split from Ike in the 1970s, and launched what became known as “one of the greatest comebacks in music history”.

In 1984, her multi-platinum album Private Dancer was a huge hit around the world, and Tina became a household name. 

But she didn’t just sing, Tina also acted, starring in films such as Tommy, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and Last Action Hero, and her 1993 biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It, brought her story to even more fans.

In 2021, the songstress sold her likeness, music and image rights to BMG for a sum of £40million or $50million. 

Alongside million of sales, Tina earned 12 Grammy Awards nominations, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also the first black artist and the first female to be on the cover of Rolling Stone.
