Woman mortified after catching her best friend breastfeeding her baby

A mum-of-one shared her story on the parenting forum Babycenter and admitted that she was mortified when she recently caught her friend breastfeeding her baby.

The woman explained that her best friend’s daughter is one month older than her son and said that she doesn’t breastfeed “because it was too much of a nuisance to me”.

She reportedly dropped off her son at her friend’s house so she could babysit him and “when I got back I walked in her living room and saw my son sucking on her”.

The woman was shocked when she saw her friend nursing her baby without permission: “I was like that’s gross, what are you doing?!”

Her friend reportedly told her that she wanted to see if he would nurse from her and that “it is healthier for him anyway, and she didn’t see what the big deal was”.

The mum-of-one said on the parenting forum: “I’m so p** o** right now, I just caught my friend breastfeeding my son and I’m not sure how to handle the situation.

“I’m so hurt right now, I trusted her with my baby and I feel so betrayed right now,” she added and asked other mums for advice.

Most forum users commented that it is very “awkward” to breastfeed someone else’s baby without their permission, and a bit “creepy”.

One mum with username @Mandabean85 opined that the friend “should have talked to you before attempting to nurse”.

She added: “I think it’s quite awkward unless necessary I probably wouldn’t nurse someone else’s baby.

“Necessary meaning there is no formula and no means to get it for hours or that mama can’t nurse herself for whatever reason.”

Another mum agreed and commented that it is “weird” that the friend decided to nurse her baby without her consent, even though in a lot of cultures it’s acceptable.

Others said that only she knows the type of person her friend is and her intentions behind that.

@mommee2be09 added: “There’s no reason why she should be breastfeeding your baby. That’s taking it too far when they think it’s okay to breastfeed babies that are not their own.”
