Wonka trailer reveals Timothee Chalamet dancing and a tiny green Hugh Grant | Films | Entertainment

The first full official trailer promises the story of how Willy became Wonka.

This origin story goes behind the myth of Willy Wonka to discover how the legendary inventor and chocolate maker started out.

Following the older incarnations of Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, Timothee Chalamet bring his boyish brio to the role. He’s a long way from Dune as he debuts some dancing skills, complete with impressive can-can kicks.

Not to be left out, Hugh Grant gives us a rather more po-faced wiggle as a small green man trapped in a bell jar.

Which can only mean one wonderfully delicious thing.

This story is taking us right back to the beginning, and showing us the first time Willy meets an Oompa Loompa.

And as we all already know, they do love a dance. In fact, Grant’s character informs Will, “Once we’ve started dancing we can’t stop.”

The whole joyous, cosily nostalgic tone of the trailer should already be a clue, but Grant’s presence just confirms that we are in the hands of the filmmakers who brought us the sublimely delightful Paddington films. Where, of course, Grant’s villain delivered a fabulous prison block musical fantasia.

Paul King, the writer/director of the Paddington films, takes the helm again on his own original story based on Dahl’s iconic characters.

The film also stars Jim Carter, Matt Lucas, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson and Olivia Colman.

Quality is assured as King reunites many of his cast and crew from the Paddington films, including producer David Heyman, who also worked on the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises.

Get ready for a delicious and decidedly magical ride…

WONKA IS OUT IN UK CINEMAS ON DECEMBER 15
